Sayuri is an independent girl who isn't afraid of much in life. She doesn't back down from anyone or anything and often butts heads with Ryuichi because of their conflicting personalities. Her best friend is Mai and she often finds herself meddling in the shy girl's life (with the best of intentions).

Ryuichi has an "I don't care about anything" attitude because of a rough life and some tragedy in his past. Due to this, he often skips school, talks back to authority figures, and makes Sayuri's life a living hell just because it... well, amuses him. The one stable force in Ryuichi's life is Daisuke, his best friend since they were little.

I'll just say it: Rieko is the school bitch, and she doesn't care who knows it. Well, except if it's Atsumori, whom she's fooled into believing she's the sweetest girl ever. Rieko is dating Atsumori and is extremely jealous if another girl even gives him a glance. Obviously this creates problems for Mai and her attempts to get to know Atsumori. Rieko learning of Mai's crush on him doesn't help matters, either. It has become Rieko's personal mission to destroy Mai emotionally, mentally, and probably physically too, if she can pull that off legally.

Atsumori has it all: he's popular, a bishounen, and has a hot girlfriend. He's the nicest guy you will ever meet, but at the same time he can be totally oblivious. Specifically, he has absolutely no clue Mai has a crush on him and he has no idea how truly evil Rieko is, despite the fact the rest of the school knows.

Daisuke is Ryuichi's best friend. He's a kind person who doesn't seem like the type who would hang out with Ryuichi, but the two grew up together and are almost like brothers. Daisuke stands by his friend even when Ryuichi doesn't always do the right thing. He's reliable and often acts as a peacemaker when trouble starts.

Hashimoto, owner of the magic store "The Magic Book," is Sayuri's grandmother. Wise and direct, she has no problem speaking her mind or doing what she feels is necessary to do the right thing. Her past, however, is full of mystery.

Suiren is a goddess possibly as old as time itself. Her powers water based, she is dedicated to protecting the planet and fight those who would do it harm. Throughout the centuries she has provided what help she can in fighting the most powerful demons.

He's the baddest of the bad and the biggest threat the world has ever seen. 1,000 years ago he commanded an army of demons and was poised to take over the world until his miraculous defeat. Now he's back with plans to renew his efforts.

Kikyo is one of the Demon Lord's generals. She holds a special place by his side, second only to Jao in rank. She constantly questions her master's orders, but only because she knows he will show more patience for her than others. Unlike the others, who are all demons, Kikyo is a human given immortality thanks to the Demon Lord's powers.

Chiro is a sadistic bat-like demon that thrives on torturing others. He almost always has a big grin on his face, which makes him even scarier since it usually means he's up to something nasty. Chiro is skilled in magic, and with his thin frame and large wingspan he can move quickly against his prey. He does not like Kikyo at all, partly because she's a human.

Jao (pronounced "jaow") is the Demon Lord's advisor and the top general in charge. He is wise, logical, and thinks and acts as a soldier. He does not show the same kind of desire to kill like Chiro or the impulsiveness of Kikyo, but instead shows the patience of a veteran warrior. He is loyal to his very core. He is one of the more powerful demons under the Demon Lord's command.

Makku is a half cat / half human hybrid. He became what he is now thanks to the power of Suiren, who gave him the opportunity to help fight the demons in an attempt to get back for what they did to his family. Despite being a hundred years old Makku is very child-like and always talks in the third person. He's naive but very brave.

Zheng He is the fourth and most bloodthirsty of the Demon Lord's generals. Right from the beginning he has made his presence known as he cut a path through our heroes. While his red eyes, fangs, and a few slipped comments indicate his current form is not what he truly looks like, no one who has ever seen his real face has ever lived to tell about it.

The long lost third warrior, Shiro has watched the others from afar, only getting involved when it was deemed necessary. He takes his responsibilities seriously, pushing the others to accept that their actions have consequences. He has a strong desire to end the curse for his own personal reasons.

Akane is the often-inebriated older sister of Ryuichi. Although she's supposed to be watching him, it tends to be the other way around. Ryuichi often puts up with her poor treatment of him, despite it often being undeserved.

Shinji is a good friend of Atsumori, although why no one knows. While Atsumori is into sports, is popular, and has a hot girlfriend, Shinji is the exact opposite: a true otaku who would rather watch a magical girl anime than go to a baseball game. Shinji thinks he's hot stuff and has a fascination with Sayuri, although he refuses to accept that she doesn't feel the same.

Bird-chan, named by Ryuichi in an attempt to be sarcastic, is a rare bird: a phoenix. While a normal phoenix (typically featuring red and gold coloring) is rare, one of nearly pure white is almost non-existent. The limits of a white phoenix's powers have yet to be found, making it a very mysterious creature. The phoenix is one of the few remaining magical creatures left in the world.

Yukio made a short appearance during Chapter Five's omake. He once had a relationship with Rieko, but his actions led to their split and Rieko's current obsession over her relationship with Atsumori.

Esumi is Shinji's kid sister and his motivation for getting into anime.

Zheng He used this dragon as a distraction when he confronted Sayuri. It delayed the others long enough that soon tragedy was unavoidable.

Another of Zheng He's pets, his name is appropriate considering the monster's size, appearance, and appetite for destruction. It has an incredible healing factor that makes killing it impossible.
